Firework Safety: How to Keep Your Pets Calm and Safe
Pet Safety

Fireworks are fun for us, but frightening for pets! Loud noises, bright lights, and crowds can cause serious stress for animals, and more pets go missing on July 4th than on any other day. Use these quick tips to keep your furry friend safe and calm this holiday.
Before the Fireworks Start: Prepare Your Pet
Set up a Safe Space Indoors
Choose a quiet, secure room.
Add favorite blankets, toys & comfy bed.
Use fans, white noise, or soft music to help block sounds.
Exercise Early
Walk dogs or play in the morning/afternoon to burn off energy.
Check ID Tags & Microchips
Make sure ID tags are current.
Confirm microchip info is up to date.
Stay Home, Skip the Show
Fireworks displays are stressful for pets. Leave them safely at home.
During the Fireworks: Keep Them Calm
Try Calming Aids
Use anxiety wraps, pheromone diffusers, or vet-approved calming treats.
For severe anxiety, talk to your vet about medications.
Stay Calm Yourself
Pets pick up on your emotions. Stay relaxed and comfort them as needed.
Close Windows & Curtains
Block flashes and reduce loud noises.
Provide Calming Distractions
Play soothing music or TV.
Offer long-lasting chews or puzzle toys.
Safety Reminders
Walk dogs on a secure leash.
Keep pets indoors during fireworks.
Watch for fireworks in your neighborhood days before & after the holiday.
Never leave pets in the yard during celebrations.
If Your Pet Runs Away
Contact local animal shelters right away.
Check social media and neighborhood groups.
Post flyers and notify microchip companies.
Fireworks and pets may not mix well, but with preparation, awareness, and a little compassion, you can enjoy the holiday without putting your four-legged friends at risk. Stay safe, and give your pets the calm, secure space they need to ride out the festivities.
